Emlog Pro, Arbitrary File Deletion, CVE-2025-61318 (Critical)

Listen to this Post

How the CVE Works:

The vulnerability in Emlog Pro 2.5.20 resides in the admin/template.php and admin/plugin.php components, which handle deletion operations for templates and plugins. These files accept user-supplied parameters, such as ‘template’ or ‘plugin’, to specify files for deletion. However, they fail to implement proper path verification and dangerous code filtering. Attackers can exploit this by injecting directory traversal sequences, like “../”, into the parameters. For example, a crafted request with ‘template=../../../etc/passwd’ can traverse outside the intended directory. The application directly uses unsanitized input in file system functions, such as unlink(), without normalization or security checks. This allows authenticated attackers, typically with admin privileges, to delete arbitrary files on the server. The issue stems from insecure direct object reference (IDOR) and path traversal flaws, leading to unauthorized file deletion. Exploitation can result in denial of service, data loss, or further system compromise by deleting critical configuration or application files.
Platform: Emlog Pro
Version: 2.5.20
Vulnerability: Arbitrary file deletion
Severity: Critical
date: 12/08/2025

Prediction: Patch expected Q1 2026

What Undercode Say:

Analytics:

Exploit curl command example

curl -X POST ‘http://target/admin/template.php’ -d ‘template=../../../etc/passwd’

Vulnerable PHP code snippet

$file = $_POST[‘plugin’];

unlink($file); // No validation

Bash script to test vulnerability

!/bin/bash

echo “Testing CVE-2025-61318”

curl -s -o /dev/null -w “%{http_code}” ‘http://target/admin/plugin.php’ –data ‘plugin=../../index.php’

How Exploit:

Craft HTTP POST requests to admin/template.php or admin/plugin.php with traversal sequences in parameters. Use tools like curl or browsers with developer tools. Authenticate as admin or exploit other flaws for access.

Protection from this CVE

Apply vendor patch. Implement input validation. Sanitize file paths. Use absolute path checks. Restrict admin access.

Impact:

Data loss. Denial of service. System compromise. Unauthorized file deletion.
