The mentioned CVE-2025-10000 is a Stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability within the Drupal Umami Analytics module. The flaw originates from improper neutralization of user-supplied input before it is rendered on the webpage. Specifically, the module fails to adequately sanitize data being processed for analytics purposes. An attacker capable of crafting a malicious payload, such as a JavaScript script, could inject this code into the application’s data store. When an administrator or another user with sufficient privileges views the analytics dashboard where this tainted data is displayed, the malicious script is executed within their browser session. This execution happens in the context of the vulnerable Drupal site, potentially allowing the attacker to steal session cookies, deface the site, or perform administrative actions on behalf of the victim user.
Platform: Drupal
Version: <1.0.1
Vulnerability : Stored XSS
Severity: Low
date: 2024-10-30
Prediction: 2024-11-13
What Undercode Say:
Searching for potentially unsafe innerHTML usage in the codebase
grep -r "innerHTML" umami-analytics/js/
Using curl to test for basic input sanitization
curl -X POST http://drupal-site/modules/umami/analytics -d "data=<script>alert('XSS')</script>"
// Example of a vulnerable code pattern (conceptual)
const userData = unsanitizedAnalyticsInput;
document.getElementById('metrics-display').innerHTML = userData; // Vulnerable
// Secure alternative using textContent
document.getElementById('metrics-display').textContent = userData;
How Exploit:
- Attacker injects malicious script payload into analytics data.
2. Payload is stored in the application database.
3. Administrator views the analytics dashboard.
4. Malicious script executes in admin’s browser session.
5. Attacker hijacks session or performs unauthorized actions.
Protection from this CVE
Upgrade Umami Analytics module to version 1.0.1 or later.
Implement strict Content Security Policy (CSP) headers.
Sanitize all user-controlled data before rendering.
Use templating systems that automatically escape output.
Impact:
Session Hijacking
Website Defacement
Privilege Escalation
