D-Link DIR-822K and DWR-M920, Buffer Overflow, CVE-2025-13552 (Critical)

Listen to this Post

How the CVE works: CVE-2025-13552 is a remote buffer overflow vulnerability in D-Link routers. It targets the formWlEncrypt function in the /boafrm/formWlEncrypt file. The flaw arises when processing the submit-url parameter from HTTP requests. The firmware does not validate the length of this input. An attacker can send a crafted request with an overly long submit-url value. This exceeds the allocated buffer size in memory. The overflow corrupts adjacent memory regions on the stack. By overwriting the return address, control flow can be hijacked. Arbitrary code execution becomes possible via injected shellcode. The attack is remote and may not require authentication. Publicly released exploits demonstrate this exploitation method. Successful compromise allows full device control. Attackers can intercept network traffic or install malware. The vulnerability stems from insecure C programming practices. Lack of bounds checking on user input is the root cause. Affected firmware versions include 1.00_20250513164613 and 1.1.50. The exploit availability increases immediate risk. Users must apply patches to mitigate the threat.
