code-projects Blog Site, SQL Injection, CVE-2025-13575 (Medium)

Listen to this Post

The vulnerability resides in the `category_exists` function within /resources/functions/blog.php. This function is used to check if a blog category exists. It takes a user-supplied argument, such as a category `name` or `id` from a URL parameter or form field, and directly incorporates it into an SQL query without proper sanitization or using prepared statements. An attacker can craft a malicious input string containing SQL meta-characters (like a single quote ') to terminate the original query and append their own SQL commands, such as `UNION SELECT` statements to extract data from the database. As the function is called from multiple endpoints, this single flaw enables remote, authenticated attackers to read, modify, or delete sensitive information from the application’s database through classic SQL injection techniques.
Platform: code-projects Blog Site
Version: 1.0
Vulnerability: SQL Injection
Severity: Medium
Date: 2025-11-23

Prediction: Patch expected 2025-12-15

What Undercode Say:

!/bin/bash

curl -s “http://target.com/blog.php?category=’+OR+’1’=’1”
sqlmap -u “http://target.com/blog.php?category=1” –batch –dbs

How Exploit:

Attacker sends crafted payload like `’ UNION SELECT username, password FROM users–` via the vulnerable `name` parameter. The unsanitized input alters the SQL query logic, forcing the database to return unauthorized data, such as admin credentials, which appears in the application’s response.

Protection from this CVE:

Use parameterized queries (prepared statements). Implement strict input validation. Apply the principle of least privilege to the database user. Deploy a Web Application Firewall (WAF).

Impact:

Unauthorized data access (confidentiality breach). Potential data manipulation or deletion (integrity loss). Could lead to full system compromise if database permissions are excessive.
