The CVE-2025-13550 vulnerability is a remote buffer overflow in specific D-Link router models. It affects the firmware version 1.00_20250513164613/1.1.50. The flaw resides in the web interface file /boafrm/formVpnConfigSetup. This file handles VPN configuration setup requests. The `submit-url` parameter within this form is vulnerable. Attackers can manipulate this argument by supplying an excessively long string. The application fails to validate or limit the length of this input. When processing, it copies the string into a fixed-size buffer without bounds checking. This causes a buffer overflow, corrupting adjacent memory. The overflow can overwrite critical data structures on the stack. Specifically, it may overwrite the return address of a function. This allows attackers to hijack the program’s control flow. By crafting the overflow carefully, they can redirect execution to malicious code. This code is often embedded within the long input string. Successful exploitation leads to arbitrary code execution. The attack is remote via HTTP requests to the router’s web server. No authentication is required if the interface is exposed. The exploit has been publicly disclosed, facilitating attack development. This makes vulnerable devices immediate targets for compromise.
