The directory traversal vulnerability in ComposioHQ v.0.7.20 resides in the `_download_file_or_dir` function. This function is responsible for handling file download requests from users. It takes user-supplied input parameters to construct file paths for retrieval. The vulnerability occurs due to insufficient validation and sanitization of these input parameters. Specifically, the function does not properly neutralize path traversal sequences such as `../` or ..\. An attacker can craft a malicious request containing these sequences in the file path parameter. When processed, the function interprets these sequences as directory navigation commands. This allows the attacker to traverse outside the intended restricted directory. Consequently, sensitive files from the server’s filesystem can be accessed. For example, an attacker could request `../../../etc/passwd` on a Unix-like system. The function would then attempt to download this system file. The vulnerability is remotely exploitable, requiring no authentication. It leverages a lack of input filtering before passing paths to filesystem operations. The `_download_file_or_dir` function likely uses user input directly in `os.path.join` or similar calls. Without checks, absolute paths or parent directory references are accepted. This bypasses any intended access controls within the application. The vulnerability leads to information disclosure of confidential data. Affected files may include configuration files, source code, or credentials. The severity is moderated by the need for specific function invocation. However, if the function is exposed via an API endpoint, exploitation is straightforward. Attackers typically use automated tools to scan for such vulnerabilities. Remediation involves implementing strict input validation and path canonicalization.

What Undercode Say:
Analytics
curl -X GET "http://target.com/api/download?file=../../../etc/passwd"
def _download_file_or_dir(path): import os full_path = os.path.join(base_dir, path) Vulnerable line return send_file(full_path)
how Exploit:
Craft HTTP requests with traversal sequences in file parameter. Use tools like Burp Suite or wget to access sensitive files. Automate with scripts to enumerate directories.
Protection from this CVE
Implement input validation. Sanitize user input to remove path traversal sequences. Use secure file path functions. Restrict file access permissions. Update to patched version.
Impact:
Information disclosure. Unauthorized file access. Potential system compromise. Data breach risk.
