Bagisto, Server-Side Template Injection (SSTI), CVE (Critical)

Listen to this Post

How the mentioned CVE works:

The vulnerability exists in customer profile update functionality. When a low-privileged user submits a crafted payload within the ‘first name’ or ‘last name’ fields, the application unsafely processes this input with a template engine (e.g., Twig). The attacker injects template syntax, such as {{77}}, which is evaluated server-side. Successful injection allows the attacker to break out of the original template context and execute arbitrary template code. This provides direct access to the underlying application environment and its methods. Through chained template expressions, an attacker can leverage built-in functions to access sensitive configuration, read files, or instantiate dangerous classes. Ultimately, this can lead to the execution of operating system commands via the template engine’s built-in capabilities, achieving full Remote Code Execution (RCE) on the host server.

DailyCVE Form:

Platform: Bagisto e-commerce
Version: Multiple versions
Vulnerability: SSTI to RCE
Severity: Critical
Date: 2026-01-02

Prediction: Patch by 2026-02-01

What Undercode Say:

Analytics:

`curl -s http://target/customer/account/profile | grep -i “csrf”`
`python3 ssti_scanner.py -u http://target -p “firstname”`

`{{config.items()}}`

`{{”.__class__.mro()[bash].__subclasses__()}}`

How Exploit:

1. Create low-privilege account.

2. Navigate to profile edit page.

3. Intercept ‘POST’ request for `/customer/account/profile`.

  1. Replace `first_name` parameter with SSTI payload (e.g., {{7'7'}}).
  2. Escalate payload to read files: {{ get_flashed_messages.__globals__.__builtins__.open("/etc/passwd").read() }}.

6. Final payload executes system commands for RCE.

Protection from this CVE:

Sanitize user input.

Use template engine sandboxing.

Apply strict context-aware escaping.

Implement privilege-based input validation.

Update to patched version.

Impact:

Remote Code Execution.

Complete system compromise.

Data breach and theft.

Unauthorized admin access.
