Bagisto, Server-Side Template Injection, High Severity

Listen to this Post

The vulnerability is a Server-Side Template Injection (SSTI) in the Bagisto e-commerce platform, built on Laravel with the Blade templating engine. It occurs when a low-privilege user, such as a normal customer, places an order and proceeds to the address creation step. During this process, user input in address fields (e.g., name, address lines) is not properly sanitized or validated before being rendered in templates. The injected template code is then processed by the Blade engine when an administrator views the order details via the admin panel. For example, injecting {{77}} into an address field results in the evaluation and display of 49 in the admin view, confirming SSTI. This allows attackers to execute arbitrary template expressions, which can escalate to remote code execution (RCE) by leveraging Blade’s capabilities to run system commands or access sensitive data. The attack vector is accessible through the customer interface at /customer/account/addresses/create, and the payload execution occurs at /admin/sales/orders. The vulnerability stems from unsafe rendering of user-controlled data within template contexts, enabling malicious actors to compromise the server, steal data, or disrupt operations. Impact is high due to the potential for full system takeover from a low-privilege account. The issue was published and reviewed on Jan 2, 2026, highlighting the need for immediate patching and input validation measures.

What Undercode Say:

Analytics

  • Check injection: curl -X POST http://127.0.0.1:8000/customer/account/addresses/create -d “address={{77}}”
  • Verify admin view: curl http://127.0.0.1:8000/admin/sales/orders
  • Test payload: {{ system(‘id’) }}
  • Monitor logs: tail -f storage/logs/laravel.log
  • Scan vulnerability: npm audit ssti

How Exploit:

Inject malicious template code into address fields during customer order process to execute commands or leak data when admin views orders.

Protection from this CVE:

Implement input validation, use output encoding, sanitize user data, update Bagisto, restrict admin access, monitor injections.

Impact:

Remote code execution, data breach, system compromise, privilege escalation, admin panel takeover.
