How the CVE Works
The vulnerability (CVE-2025-XXXX) in Backstage Scaffolder arises when using the `fetch:template` action with secrets (${{ secrets.x }}). Due to improper log redaction, sensitive values are duplicated in logs, exposing credentials or API keys. The issue occurs in Scaffolder versions <= 2.1.0, where input values, including secrets, are logged without sanitization. Attackers with log access could extract these secrets, leading to unauthorized access or further exploitation. The flaw is fixed in `scaffolder-backend` plugin version 2.1.1.
