Auth0 WordPress Plugin, Improper Input Validation, CVE-2025-22096 (Low)

Listen to this Post

How the mentioned CVE works:

The CVE-2025-22096 vulnerability exists within the Bulk User Import functionality of the Auth0 WordPress plugin. The affected endpoint fails to properly validate the `file_path` parameter provided during the import process. This lack of validation allows an attacker to supply arbitrary PHP wrapper protocols, such as php://filter, instead of a legitimate CSV file path. When the application processes this malicious input, it can be tricked into reading and returning the contents of local files from the server. For instance, by using a wrapper to encode a sensitive file like `/etc/passwd` in base64, an attacker can exfiltrate the file’s contents through the application’s response, leading to unauthorized local file disclosure without the need for authentication.

DailyCVE Form:

Platform: Auth0 WordPress Plugin
Version: < 5.4.0
Vulnerability: File Path Manipulation
Severity: Low

date: 2025-10-01

Prediction: Patch Available

What Undercode Say:

curl -X POST 'https://target.com/auth0-endpoint' -d 'file_path=php://filter/convert.base64-encode/resource=wp-config.php'
// Example vulnerable code snippet (conceptual)
$file_path = $_POST['file_path']; // No validation
$file_content = file_get_contents($file_path);
return $file_content;

How Exploit:

Attackers send POST requests with malicious `file_path` parameter using PHP wrappers. The server processes the wrapper, reads specified local files, and returns their content, enabling information disclosure of configuration files or other sensitive data.

Protection from this CVE:

Upgrade to version 5.4.0. Implement strict allow-list validation for the `file_path` input, rejecting any protocol wrappers. Restrict server permissions to limit file system access for the web process.

Impact:

Local File Read. Unauthorized access to sensitive server files like `wp-config.php` containing database credentials. Information Disclosure leading to further server compromise.
