The CVE-2025-XXXX vulnerability in Apko arises due to improper file permissions (mode 0666) set on `/etc/ld.so.cache` and related files. This flaw was introduced in commit `04f37e2` (v0.27.0), where the dynamic linker cache file was created with world-writable permissions. A local attacker can exploit this by injecting malicious libraries into the dynamic loader path. By placing a crafted library in a directory they control, they can escalate privileges or execute arbitrary code when legitimate processes load libraries via ld.so.cache. The issue was patched in commit `aedb077` (v0.29.5), which corrects the permissions to a secure mode.
DailyCVE Form
Platform: Apko
Version: 0.27.0 – 0.29.4
Vulnerability: Incorrect permissions (ld.so.cache)
Severity: Medium
Date: 2025-07-18
Prediction: Patch expected by 2025-07-25
What Undercode Say
Check ld.so.cache permissions ls -l /etc/ld.so.cache Exploit PoC (malicious library injection) echo "/tmp/malicious_lib" >> /etc/ld.so.cache LD_PRELOAD=/tmp/malicious_lib.so vulnerable_binary
How Exploit
- Attacker writes custom paths to
/etc/ld.so.cache. - Malicious libraries are loaded via `LD_PRELOAD` or default linker paths.
Protection from this CVE
- Update to Apko v0.29.5+.
- Restrict `/etc/ld.so.cache` permissions (mode 0644).
Impact
- Local privilege escalation.
- Arbitrary code execution via library hijacking.
