Apache Zeppelin: XSS in the Helium Module, CVE-2025-XXXXX (Moderate)

Listen to this Post

How the CVE Works

The vulnerability arises due to an incomplete blacklist in Apache Zeppelin’s Helium module, allowing stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) attacks. Attackers can inject malicious scripts via user-controlled input fields, which are not properly sanitized. When other users view the compromised content, the script executes in their browser, potentially stealing session cookies or performing unauthorized actions. The flaw exists in versions before 0.12.0, where input validation fails to filter specific JavaScript events and attributes.
