How the mentioned CVE works:
A use-after-free vulnerability exists in the `gsim` driver of the Android kernel. The issue occurs when the driver fails to properly manage memory resources. During the handling of a GSIM_CMD_START ioctl command, a kernel object is allocated. If a subsequent error occurs, the code path frees this object but fails to nullify the pointer, leaving a dangling reference. A local attacker can then trigger the driver to use this freed memory, leading to a kernel crash or arbitrary code execution with elevated privileges, compromising the entire system’s security and stability.
Platform: Android Kernel
Version: Linux Kernel versions before 5.15.167
Vulnerability : Use-After-Free
Severity: Critical
date: 2025-01-15
Prediction: Expected Patch Date: 2025-02-15
What Undercode Say:
`cat /proc/version`
`dmesg | grep -i “gsim”`
`/sys/kernel/debug/tracing/events/kmem/kmalloc`
`echo 0 > /sys/class/gsim/gsim0/enable`
How Exploit:
Local privilege escalation.
Triggering dangling pointer.
Kernel code execution.
System instability.
Protection from this CVE
Apply vendor patch.
Update kernel to 5.15.167+.
Restrict system module loading.
Use SELinux enforcing mode.
Impact:
Complete system compromise.
Kernel panic and crashes.
