Advantech WebAccess/VPN, SQL Injection, CVE-2025-34241 (MEDIUM)

Listen to this Post

The CVE-2025-34241 vulnerability is a SQL injection issue in Advantech WebAccess/VPN software. It affects versions before 1.1.5. The flaw resides in the AjaxDeviceController.ajaxDeviceAction() function. This function processes AJAX requests for device management actions. Specifically, it handles datatable search parameters from user input. These parameters are not properly sanitized or validated. An authenticated user with low privileges, such as an observer, can exploit this. By manipulating search fields, the user injects malicious SQL commands. The injected SQL is executed directly on the backend database. This occurs because user input is concatenated into SQL queries without escaping. The attack can be performed over the network with low complexity. No user interaction is required beyond authentication. The vulnerability allows unauthorized read access to the database. Attackers can disclose sensitive information stored in the database. This includes potentially confidential system data. The impact is on confidentiality and integrity, but not availability. The CVSS 4.0 score is 5.3, indicating medium severity. The vector string is CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VC:L/VI:L/VA:N/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N. This signifies network attack vector, low attack complexity, no additional privileges beyond low-level authentication, no user interaction, low impacts on confidentiality and integrity, and no effects on availability or scope changes.
