Adobe Experience Manager, Misconfiguration, CVE-2024-23653 (Critical)

Listen to this Post

How the CVE Works:

The vulnerability in Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) stems from a misconfigured OSGi setting that allows unauthenticated, remote attackers to upload arbitrary bundles. By sending a specially crafted HTTP POST request to the affected AEM instance, an attacker can deploy a malicious OSGi bundle. Once deployed, this bundle executes with system-level privileges, enabling complete compromise of the AEM author environment. The exploitation chain bypasses all security controls because the OSGi console is improperly exposed, requiring no authentication for access. This allows for direct remote code execution, granting the attacker full control over the server.
Platform: Adobe Experience Manager
Version: 6.5.23 and earlier
Vulnerability: OSGi Misconfiguration
Severity: Critical

date: 2024

Prediction: Expected Patch: 2024

What Undercode Say:

`curl -X POST -F ‘[email protected]’ http://target:4502/system/console/bundles`

`scanner -t target.com –check-aem-osgi</h2>
<h2 style="color: blue;">
java -cp aem-expoit.jar Main target:4502`

How Exploit:

Unauthenticated remote attackers upload malicious OSGi bundles via exposed Felix console. The crafted HTTP request deploys and activates the bundle, leading to immediate arbitrary code execution on the AEM author instance.

Protection from this CVE:

Block access to `/system/console` from untrusted networks. Immediately upgrade AEM to the latest version provided by Adobe which contains the security fix. Apply strict network segmentation.

Impact:

Full system compromise. Attacker gains complete control over the AEM author environment, enabling data theft, content manipulation, and further network lateral movement.
