wrflib, Soundness Issue, CVE-2025-11011 (Low)

Listen to this Post

The CVE-2025-11011 vulnerability in the `wrflib` Rust crate stems from a fundamental soundness issue within its `wrflib::byte_extract` module. All functions in this module are simple, unsafe wrappers around pointer offset operations. These functions accept arbitrary pointer and offset parameters from user-supplied input but perform no validation. An attacker can provide a specially crafted, large offset value that causes an integer wrap-around or calculates a pointer far outside the bounds of the original memory allocation. When this invalid pointer is subsequently dereferenced, it leads to undefined behavior, including reading from or writing to arbitrary memory locations, potentially causing a segmentation fault or program crash. As the library is unmaintained, these unsound operations will not be fixed.
