WordPress WPLMS Plugin, Missing Authorization Vulnerability, CVE-2025-49925 (High)

Listen to this Post

The CVE-2025-49925 vulnerability is a Missing Authorization (CWE-862) flaw in the VibeThemes WPLMS WordPress plugin. It allows unauthenticated remote attackers to access functionality that is not properly constrained by Access Control Lists (ACLs). The core issue is that specific functions within the `wplms_plugin` do not perform necessary authorization checks. An attacker can send crafted network requests to vulnerable AJAX endpoints or other plugin functions without any credentials. Because no capability or nonce token verification is in place, the plugin executes these privileged actions for any user. This broken access control enables attackers to invoke actions intended only for administrative or authenticated users. Potential exploits could include accessing restricted data, manipulating course settings, or disrupting e-learning platform operations. The attack complexity is low, requires no privileges or user interaction, and is exploitable over the network. This vulnerability affects all WPLMS plugin versions from n/a through and including version 1.9.9.7.

What Undercode Say:

Analytics

Monitor for unauthorized AJAX requests to WPLMS endpoints
grep "admin-ajax.php" /var/log/nginx/access.log | grep -E "(wplms|vibe)" | grep "POST"
Check for unexpected administrative user creation in WordPress
wp user list --role=administrator --fields=user_login,user_registered
Scan site files for recently added or modified PHP files in plugin directories
find /wp-content/plugins/wplms_plugin -name ".php" -type f -mtime -1

How Exploit:

Attackers send HTTP POST requests directly to vulnerable WPLMS AJAX actions without authentication. For example, a request to `admin-ajax.php` with an action parameter targeting a function that imports data or modifies settings could be exploited. The server processes the request because the function lacks a capability check (current_user_can) and a valid nonce. Successful exploitation could lead to unauthorized access, data manipulation, or creation of administrative accounts.
