How CVE-2025-0839 Works
The ZoomSounds plugin (≤6.91) for WordPress fails to sanitize user-supplied attributes in shortcodes, allowing authenticated attackers (Contributor+) to inject malicious JavaScript. When the compromised shortcode renders on a page, the script executes in visitors’ browsers. The vulnerability stems from improper use of `esc_attr()` for output escaping, enabling XSS payloads like [zoomsounds param="<script>alert(1)</script>"]. Attackers exploit this by crafting posts/pages with malicious shortcodes, which persist in the database (stored XSS).
