The wp2shell vulnerability, tracked as CVE-2026-63030, represents a critical pre-authentication remote code execution flaw residing within WordPress core components.
It bypasses standard access control checks by exploiting a routing confusion vulnerability present within the REST API batch controller endpoint located at /wp-json/batch/v1.
By carefully crafting nested batch requests, malicious actors can manipulate the route dispatcher mechanism to process sub-requests in an unintended sequence.
This specific structural desynchronization results in the execution of restricted or protected handlers under completely public permission contexts without requiring any prior authentication.
Furthermore, this route confusion vulnerability chains directly with CVE-2026-60137, an underlying SQL injection flaw located within the author__not_in parameter of WP_Query.
When an unauthenticated request successfully reaches the query handler via the batch endpoint, the unsanitized input flows straight into the database query engine.
This enables attackers to extract sensitive information, modify records, or escalate privileges within the application environment to achieve full remote code execution.
Because the affected batch endpoint has been shipped by default since WordPress version 5.6, the exposure encompasses a vast majority of active installations globally.
No special plugin configurations, user accounts, or administrative credentials are required, meaning any default stock installation running vulnerable versions remains fully exposed.
Security researchers and software vendors responded rapidly by releasing patched core versions and enabling forced automatic updates to mitigate widespread active exploitation.
DailyCVE Form:
Platform: WordPress Core
Version: 6.9.0 to 6.9.4
Vulnerability: Remote Code Execution
Severity: Critical
date: July 17 2026
Prediction: July 17 2026
What Undercode Say
Bash commands and code related to the blog
curl -s -o /dev/null -w "%{http_code}\n" https://target-site.com/wp-json/batch/v1
curl -s -o /dev/null -w "%{http_code}\n" "https://target-site.com/?rest_route=/batch/v1"
The desynchronization of request arrays within the REST API batch controller allows unauthenticated traffic to reach internal query handlers by stripping away permission checks entirely.
Exploit: (Educational Purposes!)
POST /wp-json/batch/v1 HTTP/1.1
Host: target-site.com
Content-Type: application/json
{
"requests": [
{
"method": "POST",
"path": "/wp/v2/posts",
"body": {
"author_exclude": "1 UNION SELECT..."
}
}
]
}
An attacker submits a specially crafted nested JSON payload to the batch endpoint, tricking the route dispatcher into routing malicious input directly into vulnerable database query parameters.
Protection: from this CVE
Update WordPress core immediately to version 6.9.5 or 7.0.2.
Verify that automatic updates were successfully applied across all deployed website instances.
Temporarily block anonymous requests to the /wp-json/batch/v1 REST API endpoint if patching is delayed.
Deploy web application firewall rules to filter suspicious nested batch structures and SQL injection payloads.
Impact:
Complete compromise of the underlying server hosting the vulnerable WordPress application.
Full read and write access to sensitive database contents including user credentials and configuration data.
Massive global disruption affecting unpatched default installations with zero user interaction requirements.
