CVE-2025-7396 in wolfSSL involves missing blinding support for Curve25519 in specific builds, potentially exposing private keys to side-channel attacks. Blinding is a countermeasure that randomizes cryptographic operations to obscure key material from physical observations like power consumption or electromagnetic emissions. In wolfSSL release 5.8.2, blinding is enabled by default for Curve25519, but only in applicable builds using the base C implementation. The configure option for blinding does not apply to ARM assembly builds, Intel assembly builds, or the small Curve25519 feature, leaving these without blinding protection. Attackers with physical access to vulnerable devices could attempt to extract Curve25519 private keys by analyzing side-channel leaks during key operations. Although such attacks are considered very difficult to execute in practice, the absence of blinding removes a critical security layer for devices susceptible to physical access or observation. This vulnerability primarily affects environments where attackers can closely monitor hardware, increasing the risk of key compromise. The CVSS 4.0 score rates it medium due to the high attack complexity and required physical access.
