How the CVE Works
CVE-2025-24937 is a critical Local File Inclusion (LFI) vulnerability in a web application that allows attackers to read arbitrary files from the local file system. The flaw occurs due to improper input validation when handling file inclusion requests. An attacker can manipulate file paths to access sensitive system files, such as `/etc/passwd` or application configuration files. Additionally, if the web server has write permissions, malicious code can be injected into executable files, leading to Remote Code Execution (RCE). The vulnerability is network-exposed, making it exploitable remotely without authentication. The CVSS 4.0 score reflects high severity due to the potential for complete system compromise.
DailyCVE Form
Platform: Web Application
Version: Unspecified
Vulnerability: Local File Inclusion (LFI)
Severity: Critical
Date: 08/11/2025
Prediction: Patch expected by 09/30/2025
What Undercode Say
Example exploit (LFI test)
curl "http://target.com/include.php?file=../../../../etc/passwd"
Log poisoning attempt
curl "http://target.com/include.php?file=/var/log/apache2/access.log&cmd=malicious_payload"
Mitigation (PHP example)
if (!preg_match('/^[a-zA-Z0-9_-]+$/', $_GET['file'])) {
die("Invalid file parameter");
}
How Exploit
- Path traversal to read sensitive files (e.g.,
/etc/passwd). - Log poisoning to inject PHP code via server logs.
- Remote Code Execution (RCE) via malicious file upload.
Protection from this CVE
- Disable dynamic file inclusion.
- Implement strict input validation (whitelist allowed chars).
- Run web server with least privileges.
Impact
- Full system compromise via RCE.
- Data leakage from sensitive files.
- Unauthorized access to server resources.
