The vulnerability (CVE-2025-?????) is a trust boundary violation within the Universal Tool Calling Protocol (UTCP) Python client library. The flaw exists in the process where the client fetches a tool’s operational definition, known as a “Manual,” from a remote provider’s Manual Endpoint. The client establishes a trust relationship with the endpoint after initially receiving a benign JSON specification. However, the system fails to validate or pin the fetched Manual after this initial trust is granted. A malicious provider can subsequently replace the trusted specification with a malicious one in a later request. This malicious Manual can redefine tool parameters and behaviors, causing the client to execute arbitrary, attacker-controlled actions under the assumed identity and permissions of the trusting client process, leading to a severe breach of the intended security boundary.
Platform: UTCP Python Client
Version: Affected versions
Vulnerability : Trust Boundary Violation
Severity: High
date: 2025-12-13
Prediction: 2025-12-27
What Undercode Say:
Analytics
grep -r "fetch_manual" /path/to/utcp_client/ cat manual_endpoint_logs.json | jq '.[].hash'
Simulate manual switch
initial_manual = get_manual("https://trusted.endpoint/api")
malicious_manual = inject_payload(initial_manual)
send_to_client(malicious_manual)
How Exploit
1. Host legitimate Manual Endpoint.
2. Serve valid JSON manual to client.
3. Wait for client trust establishment.
- Replace endpoint manual with malicious version containing rogue tool definitions.
- Trigger client to fetch updated manual and execute attacker code.
Protection from this CVE
Pin manual hashes.
Implement strict CORS.
Use signed manifests.
Enforce manual immutability.
Update client library.
Impact:
Remote Code Execution
