TrueConf Server, Missing Authentication, CVE-2026-72529 (Critical) -DC-Aug2026-1981

Listen to this Post

CVE-2026-72529 describes a critical security vulnerability in TrueConf Server. The flaw resides in the server’s network service listening on port 4307/TCP. This port handles specific internal functions, one of which is an undocumented API call. This undocumented function does not implement any form of authentication or authorization. A remote, unauthenticated attacker can send a specially crafted request to this port. By exploiting this missing authentication for a critical function, the attacker can execute arbitrary scripts on the server. The server processes these scripts with the privileges of the service account. This allows the attacker to gain unauthorized control over the affected system. The vulnerability affects the server versions including 5.3.X up to 5.3.9, 5.4.X up to 5.4.9, and 5.5.X up to 5.5.5. All earlier versions are also considered vulnerable. The vulnerability was discovered and reported by Kaspersky Labs. The impact is severe as it allows for complete system compromise. An attacker can use this to install malware, steal sensitive data, or disrupt services. The attack vector is remote and over the network, requiring no user interaction. This makes it highly dangerous and easily exploitable. The lack of authentication bypasses all standard security controls. The specific function called is undocumented, making detection difficult. This CVE has been added to CISA’s Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog. This addition indicates active exploitation in the wild. The CISA catalog also provides a deadline for applying mitigations. Organizations using TrueConf Server need to act immediately. The vulnerability is rooted in CWE-306: Missing Authentication for Critical Function. This is a common weakness but critical in this context. The vendor is TrueConf, and the product is TrueConf Server. The advisory from Kaspersky provides detailed technical analysis. The date added to the CISA catalog provides a clear timeline for action.

DailyCVE Form:

Platform: TrueConf Server
Version: 5.3.x – 5.5.5
Vulnerability: Missing Authentication
Severity: Critical
Date: August 20, 2026

Prediction: August 23, 2026

What Undercode Say:

Analytics show a high risk of exploitation. The CISA catalog addition confirms active use. Security teams should prioritize patching. Network scans can identify vulnerable servers. Use the following to check for exposure.
Check for TrueConf Server version via HTTP response header or specific endpoint.
curl -I http://:4307/
If server is vulnerable, a simple script can trigger the exploit.

This example is for educational purposes only.

echo “This is a test script execution” > test.txt
Simulated exploit attempt using curl to call the undocumented function.
curl -X POST http://:4307/undocumented_function –data “script=test.txt”

Exploit: (Educational Purposes!)

An attacker would first perform reconnaissance to identify a vulnerable TrueConf Server. Nmap can be used to scan for open port 4307/TCP. After confirming the server version is in the affected range, they would craft a request. The request would be directed to the undocumented endpoint. The payload would contain a command or script to be executed. For example, a reverse shell command could be included. This would establish a persistent backdoor on the system. The exploit does not require any credentials. The attack is performed over the network, requiring only access to the port. This makes it a simple, low-skill attack. The attacker can then leverage this access for lateral movement.

Protection from this CVE:

  • Immediately apply the official vendor patches. Patches are expected to be released by August 23, 2026.
  • Block external access to port 4307/TCP on firewalls.
  • Implement network segmentation to restrict internal access to the server.
  • Monitor network logs for suspicious requests to port 4307/TCP.
  • Deploy a Web Application Firewall (WAF) or IPS to detect and block exploit attempts.

Impact:

Successful exploitation leads to complete compromise of the TrueConf Server. An attacker can execute arbitrary code with system-level privileges. This results in a total loss of confidentiality, integrity, and availability. All server data, including communications and user records, can be stolen. The server can be used as a pivot point for attacks on the internal network. Unauthorized access to administrative functions is possible. Ransomware or other malware can be deployed on the server. Business operations relying on the conference server will be disrupted. The long-term impact includes reputational damage and regulatory fines. Immediate action is required to mitigate these risks.
