How the CVE Works
CVE-2025-54948 is a critical pre-authentication remote code execution (RCE) vulnerability in Trend Micro Apex One’s on-premise management console. The flaw arises due to improper input validation in file upload functionality, allowing an unauthenticated attacker to upload malicious scripts (e.g., webshells) to the server. By crafting a specially formatted HTTP request, the attacker bypasses authentication checks and executes arbitrary commands with SYSTEM-level privileges. The exploit leverages insecure handling of file extensions and insufficient path sanitization, enabling command injection via crafted filenames or metadata.
