How the CVE Works
The vulnerability in the `transpose` crate (versions before 0.2.3) arises from improper handling of `input_width` and `input_height` arguments, leading to an integer overflow. When these values are manipulated, an arithmetic overflow occurs, causing a miscalculation in buffer allocation. This results in a heap-based buffer overflow, allowing an attacker to write beyond allocated memory bounds, potentially leading to arbitrary code execution or a crash. The flaw stems from missing bounds checks during matrix transposition operations.
