ThingsBoard, Template Injection Vulnerability, CVE-2025-9094 (Medium)

Listen to this Post

How the CVE Works:

The vulnerability exists within the `Add Gateway Handler` component of ThingsBoard. It stems from improper neutralization of user-supplied input before it is processed by a template engine. An attacker can send specially crafted remote requests containing template language syntax. When this input is not sanitized, the template engine executes the embedded commands, leading to server-side template injection (SSTI). This allows for remote code execution on the server within the context of the application, potentially compromising the ThingsBoard instance and underlying system. The attack is remotely exploitable by an authenticated user with low privileges.

DailyCVE Form:

Platform: ThingsBoard
Version: 4.1
Vulnerability: Template Injection
Severity: Medium
Date: 2025-08-17

Prediction: Patch v4.2

What Undercode Say:

Analytics:

curl -X POST 'http://<target>/api/gateway' -H 'Authorization: Bearer <token>' --data '{"name":"${77}"}'
grep -r "TemplateProcessingException" /var/log/thingsboard/

How Exploit:

Remote authenticated attacker injects template payloads via gateway creation API requests.

Protection from this CVE:

Apply vendor patch. Implement strict input validation and context-aware output encoding for all template variables.
