How the CVE Works
The CVE-2025-XXXXX vulnerability in Spring Framework MVC applications arises due to insufficient path validation in non-compliant Servlet containers. When an application processes user-supplied input for file operations, an attacker can manipulate paths using `../` sequences to traverse directories and access restricted files. This occurs when:
1. The application uses `ServletResourceResolver` or similar mechanisms.
- The Servlet container does not normalize paths securely.
3. Default security configurations are disabled.
Apache Tomcat and Jetty mitigate this with strict path checks, but misconfigured or non-standard containers remain at risk.
