How the CVE Works
CVE-2025-20232 is a privilege escalation vulnerability in Splunk Enterprise and Splunk Cloud Platform. It allows a low-privileged user to execute risky SPL (Splunk Processing Language) commands with elevated permissions by exploiting the `/app/search/search` endpoint’s `s` parameter. The attacker must trick a higher-privileged user into initiating a malicious request via phishing. The vulnerability bypasses SPL safeguards, enabling unauthorized command execution under the victim’s permissions.
