How the CVE Works
CVE-2025-20226 is a privilege escalation vulnerability in Splunk Enterprise and Cloud Platform where low-privileged users can execute risky SPL commands with elevated privileges. The attack requires phishing a higher-privileged user to initiate a malicious request through the “/services/streams/search” endpoint. By crafting a specially saved search with dangerous commands in the “q” parameter, an attacker bypasses SPL safeguards. The vulnerability exploits improper permission validation when processing streamed searches, allowing command execution under the victim’s privileges rather than the attacker’s.
