Shiori, Authentication Bypass, CVE-2026-XXXX (Moderate)

Listen to this Post

This vulnerability exploits the absence of rate-limiting controls on the Shiori web application’s login endpoint. The login function does not track or restrict the number of failed authentication attempts from a single source IP address or user session. An attacker can systematically submit a high volume of login requests with different password guesses against a known username. Without countermeasures like account lockouts, progressive delays, or CAPTCHA challenges, the attacker can continue brute-forcing indefinitely. This allows for the eventual discovery of valid credentials through automated scripting. The attack leverages the predictable nature of HTTP POST requests to the `/login` path, requiring no prior authentication or complex manipulation of the application state. Successful exploitation leads to full authentication bypass and unauthorized access to the bookmark management interface and stored data.
Platform: Shiori
