rtvm-interpreter, Insufficient Checks, CVE-2025-XXXXX (Low)

Listen to this Post

The vulnerability, CVE-2025-XXXXX, exists within the public API of the rtvm-interpreter. It stems from unsound memory safety practices in a function that operates on a public struct. The struct contains fields that can be directly manipulated by user-supplied code. The affected function fails to perform adequate bounds checking or validation on the values stored within these public struct fields before using them in operations, such as calculating buffer offsets or determining iteration counts. This lack of validation allows an attacker to craft a malicious struct instance with specially chosen field values. When the vulnerable function processes this malicious instance, it may read from or write to memory locations outside the bounds of intended buffers. This could lead to out-of-bounds memory access, potentially resulting in a crash due to a segmentation fault, disclosure of sensitive information from adjacent memory, or, in a worst-case scenario, remote code execution if the memory corruption can be precisely controlled.
Platform: rtvm-interpreter
Version: pre-1.0
Vulnerability: Unsound API
Severity: Low
date: 2025-12-02

Prediction: Patch 2025-12-16

What Undercode Say:

Analytics:

git clone https://github.com/example/rtvm-interpreter
cd rtvm-interpreter
grep -r "pub struct" --include=".rs"
cargo audit
// Example of vulnerable pattern
pub struct UntrustedInput {
pub offset: usize,
pub length: usize,
}
fn process(input: &UntrustedInput, buffer: &[bash]) {
let _ = &buffer[input.offset..]; // Missing bounds check on public field
}
