How CVE-2025-3618 Works
CVE-2025-3618 is a memory allocation flaw in Rockwell Automation ThinManager when processing Type 18 messages. The software fails to properly validate memory allocation results, leading to a crash when handling maliciously crafted requests. An attacker sends a specially designed Type 18 message, triggering improper resource handling and causing a denial-of-service (DoS) condition. The vulnerability stems from insufficient error-checking during memory operations, allowing unhandled exceptions to disrupt service availability.
