How the CVE Works:
The vulnerability in Reflex (CVE-2025-XXXX) allows an attacker to manipulate private state fields due to improper access control in client-side storage modification events. Reflex’s state management system fails to enforce proper validation, permitting unauthorized modifications to sensitive fields. Attackers can guess or brute-force private field names (e.g., _admin, _role) and alter them via crafted requests. This bypasses intended restrictions, enabling privilege escalation or impersonation. The flaw stems from insufficient server-side validation of state mutations, exposing critical backend logic to client-side tampering.
DailyCVE Form:
Platform: Reflex
Version: < 0.7.11
Vulnerability: State tampering
Severity: Critical
Date: 2025-05-15
What Undercode Say:
Analytics:
- Attack vector: Client-side API abuse.
- Exploitability: Low (requires field guessing).
- Prevalence: High in Reflex apps with role-based states.
Exploit Command (PoC):
import requests
target_url = "https://vulnerable-reflex-app.com/state_update"
malicious_payload = {"_admin": "true", "_user_id": "attacker_id"}
requests.post(target_url, json=malicious_payload)
Mitigation Code:
Server-side validation patch
def validate_state_update(request):
private_fields = ["_admin", "_role", "_user_id"]
for field in private_fields:
if field in request.json:
raise PermissionError("Private field modification blocked.")
Protection Steps:
1. Upgrade to Reflex >= 0.7.11.
2. Implement server-side field whitelisting.
3. Audit state fields for unintended exposure.
Logging Command:
grep -r "_admin" /var/log/reflex_app/state_logs.log
Impact Reduction:
- Disable client-side state writes for sensitive fields.
- Use cryptographic signatures for state mutations.
Debugging Snippet:
// Client-side debug to detect tampering
Reflex.State.prototype.<em>validate = function(field, value) {
if (field.startsWith('</em>')) throw "Illegal private field access";
};
