Quark Cloud Drive, DLL Hijacking Vulnerability, CVE-2025-63685 (Critical)

Listen to this Post

This vulnerability is a classic Dynamic Link Library (DLL) hijacking issue within Quark Cloud Drive version 3.23.2. The core flaw stems from the application’s insecure loading mechanism for system libraries. Specifically, the software attempts to load the Windows system utility `regsvr32.exe` but fails to properly validate either the full path or the digital signature of the file it loads. This insecure practice allows the application’s search order for dependencies to be manipulated. An attacker can exploit this by placing a maliciously crafted DLL file in the application’s startup directory or other locations searched before the legitimate system directory. When a user launches the vulnerable Quark Cloud Drive application, it inadvertently searches for and loads the attacker’s malicious DLL instead of the legitimate Windows system file. This results in the malicious code being executed with the same privileges as the application and the user, leading to a full compromise. The attack complexity is low, requiring no user interaction beyond starting the program, and can lead to remote code execution.
Platform: Quark Cloud Drive
Version: v3.23.2
Vulnerability: DLL Hijacking
Severity: Critical (9.8)
date: 2025-11-20

Prediction: 2026-01-20

What Undercode Say:

`powershell Get-Process -Name “QuarkDrive” -Module | Select-Object ModuleName, FileName`

`cmd /c where regsvr32.exe`

`python3 -c “import struct; buf = b’\x90’100; open(‘malicious.dll’,’wb’).write(buf)”`

How Exploit:

An attacker creates a malicious DLL file named to match the target of the insecure load. This DLL is placed in a writable directory that the application searches before the legitimate Windows system folder, such as its own application directory. No user interaction beyond launching the program is required. Upon execution, Quark Cloud Drive loads the malicious DLL, granting the attacker code execution.

Protection from this CVE:

Upgrade application once patched version is released. Restrict write permissions to application install directories. Implement endpoint protection to detect and block unauthorized DLL injections. Use signed libraries and enforce signature validation.

Impact:

Complete application compromise. Remote code execution. Attacker persistence on system. Potential data theft and lateral movement.
