How the Mentioned CVE Works
This vulnerability resides in the `libimagecodec.quram.so` library, a component responsible for processing image data on affected Samsung devices. The flaw is an out-of-bounds write that occurs during the decoding of a specially crafted image file. An attacker can create a malicious image, such as a Qmage (.qmg) format file, containing parameters that trigger an incorrect memory calculation. This miscalculation leads to data being written beyond the boundaries of the intended, allocated memory buffer. By carefully controlling the data written outside the buffer, an attacker can corrupt critical process structures or overwrite function pointers in memory. When the corrupted memory is later accessed or the overwritten pointer is called, the attacker can hijack the execution flow of the application using the library. Ultimately, this allows for the execution of arbitrary code with the privileges of the application that decodes the image, which could be a messaging app, web browser, or gallery viewer, potentially leading to full device compromise.
