pyLoad, Log Injection Vulnerability, CVE-2023-XXXX (Medium)

Listen to this Post

How the CVE Works

The vulnerability in pyLoad’s `/json/add_package` API endpoint allows attackers with package-creation privileges to inject malicious log entries. When a new package is added, the application logs the event in the format: Added package 'NAME' containing 'X' links. However, the input for the package name is not sanitized, allowing newline characters (\n) to be injected. Since newlines separate log entries, an attacker can forge fake log lines, misleading administrators or hiding malicious activity.
