How the mentioned CVE works:
The vulnerability exists in the `display.php` file at line 396. The application unsafely retrieves user input from the `$_REQUEST[‘query’]` superglobal variable. This user-controlled input is passed directly into the `browseQuery()` function without any sanitization or use of prepared statements. When an authenticated user sends a specially crafted SQL payload within the ‘query’ parameter, the malicious code is concatenated directly into a SQL query string. The database then executes this manipulated query, allowing the attacker to read, modify, or delete any data within the database that the application’s database user can access, potentially leading to a full compromise of the underlying PostgreSQL database.
Platform: phpPgAdmin
Version: <=7.13.0
Vulnerability : SQL Injection
Severity: Moderate
date: 2025-11-20
Prediction: 2025-12-04
What Undercode Say:
curl -s "http://target/display.php" -G --data-urlencode "query=SELECT version();"
' UNION SELECT table_name FROM information_schema.tables--
sqlmap -u "http://target/display.php?query=test" --cookie="PHPSESSID=abc123"
How Exploit:
Authenticated attacker manipulates the ‘query’ parameter in a request to `display.php` with a malicious SQL payload, leading to unauthorized database access and data exfiltration.
Protection from this CVE
Update phpPgAdmin to a patched version once released. Implement input validation and use parameterized queries or prepared statements for all database interactions. Apply the principle of least privilege to the application’s database user account.
Impact:
Unauthorized data access, data manipulation, and potential full control over the connected PostgreSQL database.
