CVE-2026-44701 is an HTML Injection vulnerability identified in OpenSTAManager, an open-source management software. The flaw resides within the application’s user group creation functionality. Specifically, the vulnerability stems from improper sanitization of user-supplied input in the group name field before it is rendered in the application interface.
The vulnerable code is located in the `modules/utenti/edit.php` file. The application displays group names using the following code snippet:
<i class="fa fa-users mr-2"></i>'.tr('Utenti del gruppo: <em>GROUP</em>', [
'<em>GROUP</em>' => '<span class="text-primary">'.$group->getTranslation('').'</span>'
The critical issue is that the `$group->getTranslation(”)` value is directly concatenated into the HTML string without any escaping or sanitization. An attacker can exploit this by injecting malicious HTML content, such as anchor (<a>) tags, into the “Name” field when creating a new user group.
Once the group is created and selected, the application renders the injected HTML without proper sanitization. The injected anchor tag is displayed as an active link in the interface and remains visible when the group is assigned to a user. When any user clicks the injected link, their browser redirects them to the attacker-controlled URL. This can lead to phishing attacks or unintended redirection. The vulnerability impacts any user who views the interface where the injected content is rendered.

Platform: OpenSTAManager
Version: Unknown
Vulnerability: HTML Injection
Severity: Low

What Undercode Say:
To check if your OpenSTAManager instance is vulnerable, you can use the following command to search for the vulnerable code pattern in the `modules/utenti/edit.php` file:
grep -n "getTranslation('')" modules/utenti/edit.php
A more comprehensive check can be performed using `grep` to look for the specific code context:
grep -A 2 -B 2 "getTranslation('')" modules/utenti/edit.php
Exploit: (Educational Purposes!)
An attacker can exploit this vulnerability by injecting an anchor tag into the group name field during creation. For example, an attacker could use the following payload:
<a href="https://attacker.com/phishing">Click here</a>
When this group name is rendered, the anchor tag becomes an active link. Any user who clicks on it will be redirected to `https://attacker.com/phishing`.
Protection
To protect against CVE-2026-44701, the application must properly sanitize or escape user-supplied input before rendering it. The fix involves using proper output encoding functions when displaying the group . For example, instead of directly concatenating the value, use:
<span class="text-primary"><?php echo htmlspecialchars($group->getTranslation(''), ENT_QUOTES, 'UTF-8'); ?></span>
This ensures that any HTML special characters are converted to their corresponding HTML entities, preventing injection attacks.
Impact
This vulnerability is an HTML Injection caused by improper sanitization of user-supplied input before rendering it in the application interface. Any user who views the interface where the injected content is rendered may be impacted. Attackers can use this flaw to conduct phishing attacks or redirect users to malicious websites.
