OpenStack Mistral Dashboard Local File Inclusion Vulnerability CVE-2025-5307 (Moderate)

Listen to this Post

How the mentioned CVE works:

The CVE-2025-5307 vulnerability exists within the ‘Create Workbook’ feature of the OpenStack Mistral dashboard plugin. The feature does not properly sanitize user-supplied input for file paths. An attacker can exploit this by crafting a malicious request containing directory traversal sequences (e.g., ‘../../../../etc/passwd’) in the file path parameter. When the application processes this request, it fails to validate the path, allowing the attacker to break out of the intended directory and read arbitrary files from the underlying server’s filesystem. This leads to the unauthorized disclosure of sensitive local file content, such as configuration files containing passwords or system files.
