How the CVE Works
The vulnerability in OpenBao’s `userpass` authentication method allows attackers to enumerate valid usernames by exploiting timing discrepancies. When a request is made, the system responds slower for existing users (due to credential verification) compared to non-existent users. This timing difference enables attackers to distinguish between valid and invalid usernames, facilitating brute-force or targeted attacks.
