NVIDIA DGX Spark GBX SROOT Firmware Out-of-Bounds Write, CVE-2025-33189 (Critical)

Listen to this Post

This vulnerability resides within the System Root (SROOT) firmware of the NVIDIA DGX Spark GBX platform. The flaw is an out-of-bounds write condition occurring during specific firmware operations that handle data buffers. When processing input, the firmware fails to properly validate the size or boundaries of data before performing a write operation to a memory buffer. This allows an attacker with local or potentially remote access (depending on the exposed attack surface) to craft malicious input that exceeds the allocated buffer’s capacity. By writing data past the end of the intended buffer, the attacker can corrupt adjacent critical memory structures. This memory corruption can be carefully weaponized to overwrite function pointers, return addresses, or critical data. The consequence is a loss of memory integrity, which an attacker can leverage to achieve arbitrary code execution within the highly privileged SROOT firmware context. Successful exploitation grants control over the system’s firmware layer, enabling full system compromise, data tampering, a persistent denial of service by bricking the unit, or escalation of privileges from a lower-level user to firmware-level access.
