The vulnerability exists within the SROOT firmware of the NVIDIA DGX Spark GB10 system. SROOT firmware handles low-level system root operations and memory management. Due to insufficient bounds checking during memory write operations, an attacker can trigger an out-of-bound write. This occurs when data is written past the end of an allocated buffer in memory. The lack of validation on input size or destination address allows this corruption. An attacker can craft malicious data sent to the firmware interface. This data overflows the target buffer, overwriting adjacent memory regions. By controlling the overflow content, critical data structures can be corrupted. This includes function pointers, return addresses, or configuration data. Memory corruption enables control flow hijack within the firmware. Attackers can redirect execution to malicious code placed in memory. This leads to arbitrary code execution in the firmware context. Firmware code execution grants high privileges on the system. It allows tampering with system data and persistent changes. Denial of service is achieved by crashing the firmware. Escalation of privileges occurs by compromising root-level processes. The exploit may be performed locally or remotely via network-accessible firmware services. Successful exploitation requires access to the vulnerable firmware component. The vulnerability stems from improper input handling in SROOT functions. It highlights missing safety checks in firmware memory operations.
