NVIDIA DGX Spark GB10, Invalid Memory Read Denial of Service, CVE-2025-33191 (High)

Listen to this Post

The CVE-2025-33191 vulnerability exists within the OSROOT firmware of the NVIDIA DGX Spark GB10 platform. This firmware handles critical low-level system initialization and hardware management routines. The flaw originates from inadequate pointer validation before memory read operations. Specifically, when processing certain input parameters during system boot or maintenance operations, the firmware dereferences a pointer without verifying its alignment to a legitimate memory region. An attacker, potentially with local or network access to firmware interfaces, can craft malicious requests that manipulate these parameters. This manipulation forces the firmware to attempt reading from an unmapped or out-of-bounds memory address. Such an invalid memory read operation triggers a hardware exception at the firmware level. The firmware’s exception handler is insufficient or absent, leading to a complete system lockup or crash. This results in a persistent denial of service, requiring a physical power cycle for recovery. The vulnerability is exploitable without elevated privileges, as it targets the firmware layer below the operating system. It does not allow for arbitrary code execution or data exfiltration, confining the impact strictly to availability. The root cause is the absence of bounds checking in specific firmware functions that handle input data. NVIDIA has identified the issue in the OSROOT codebase and is developing a patch to implement proper address sanitization.
