The vulnerability stems from incorrect path handling within Nextcloud’s groupfolders feature. Groupfolders, which are shared directories for teams, use a different internal path structure compared to regular user folders. When a user performs an action, such as uploading or deleting a file within a groupfolder, the system must log this event in the admin_audit log. However, a bug in the logging function fails to properly translate the file’s path from the groupfolder’s internal format to a path the audit system can recognize and record. This mismatch causes the logging function to skip creating an audit entry for the action. Consequently, while the file operation itself succeeds, no record of it appears in the administrative audit trail, creating a gap in security monitoring.
