The vulnerability tracked under CVE-2026-70175 affects Microsoft.AspNetCore.Identity and Microsoft.AspNetCore.Identity.UI within ASP.NET Core applications. Specifically, the password-reset and account-confirmation workflows contain a flaw where validation tokens or emails can inadvertently be dispatched to an unvalidated request address rather than bound securely to the user’s stored canonical address. An attacker can manipulate input parameters during these flows to cause sensitive authentication tokens to be mailed externally, leading to account compromise or bypass of verification controls.
DailyCVE Form:
Platform: Microsoft .NET
Version: 8.0, 9.0, 10.0
Vulnerability : Weak Password Recovery
Severity: High
date: 10/13/2026
Prediction: 2026-10-13
What Undercode Say:
ASP.NET Core Identity flows must strictly validate target canonical addresses against the user database profile rather than trusting unvalidated incoming request parameters during password reset or token confirmation processes to prevent token diversion.
Exploit: (Educational Purposes!)
// Conceptual illustration of vulnerable parameter handling in recovery flows
var callbackUrl = Url.Page(
"/Account/ResetPassword",
pageHandler: null,
values: new { code = code, email = unvalidatedInputEmail },
protocol: Request.Scheme);
Protection: from this CVE
Update affected Microsoft .NET runtimes and SDK packages to versions 8.0.32, 9.0.21, 10.0.13 or later, and recompile self-contained deployments.
Impact:
Successful exploitation allows attackers to intercept password reset or confirmation tokens sent to unvalidated addresses, resulting in unauthorized account takeover, loss of data integrity, and complete compromise of user confidentiality.
