This security advisory addresses a vulnerability located within the Microsoft.AspNetCore.WebUtilities component, specifically tied to how form data is parsed and handled by applications. When multipart or incrementally arriving form data is processed, the FormPipeReader can repeatedly rescan the full buffered body from the beginning during parsing operations. This algorithmic flaw leads directly to severe quadratic CPU consumption patterns. An unauthorized remote attacker can exploit this behavior by sending specially crafted or fragmented payloads to exhaust server computing resources, triggering a denial of service condition that halts or severely degrades application performance across targeted endpoints.
DailyCVE Form:
Platform: Microsoft .NET
Version: 8.0, 9.0, 10.0
Vulnerability : Inefficient Algorithmic Complexity
Severity: Moderate
date: 10/13/2026
Prediction: 10/13/2026
What Undercode Say:
Analytics:
The vulnerability stems from inefficient algorithmic parsing logic inside FormPipeReader where incremental input chunks force repetitive scanning over previously parsed body buffers. This results in $O(n^2)$ time complexity overhead under heavy payload streams, which quickly starves the thread pool and spikes CPU utilization to saturation limits.
Exploit: (Educational Purposes!)
curl -X POST "https://vulnerable-app.local/api/upload" \ -H "Content-Type: multipart/form-data; boundary=-WebKitFormBoundary" \ --data-raw "WebKitFormBoundary\r\nContent-Disposition: form-data; name=\"file\"; filename=\"test.txt\"\r\nContent-Type: text/plain\r\n\r\n[10MB of slow drip fragmented chunks]\r\n"
Protection: from this CVE
Update the affected Microsoft .NET packages to the latest patched versions (8.0.32, 9.0.21, 10.0.13 or later) via package manager updates or by installing the latest .NET SDK and runtime releases, followed by full application recompilation and service restarts.
Impact:
Remote attackers can induce high CPU resource exhaustion via crafted incremental requests, leading to application-wide denial of service conditions, unresponsive web endpoints, and service unavailability for legitimate users.
