The vulnerability in mad-proxy (v0.3 and earlier) stems from improper validation and enforcement of its traffic interception rules. The proxy’s core function is to inspect and potentially modify HTTP/HTTPS requests based on a configured ruleset. The flaw allows a malicious actor to craft network packets or structure requests in a specific manner that the rule-matching engine fails to process correctly. This could involve exploiting inconsistencies in how the proxy handles fragmented TCP packets, specific TLS handshake anomalies, or crafted HTTP header sequences that are misinterpreted. Consequently, traffic that should be intercepted and analyzed according to the defined security policies is allowed to pass through the proxy uninspected. This bypass breaks the assumed security model, potentially allowing sensitive data to be transmitted without the intended scrutiny or filtering, leading to data leakage or communication with unauthorized endpoints.
Platform: mad-proxy
Version: <= 0.3
Vulnerability: Traffic interception bypass
Severity: Moderate
Date: 2025-12-09
Prediction: Patch 2025-12-16
What Undercode Say:
curl -x http://localhost:8080 --proxy-http1.1 -H "X-Bypass: true" http://test.com git clone https://github.com/machphy/mad-proxy cd mad-proxy && git checkout v0.3 nmap -p 8080 --script http-proxy-bypass <target>
How Exploit:
Craft fragmented HTTP/1.1 requests.
Abuse TLS renegotiation during proxy handshake.
Use ambiguous header formatting to evade rule regex.
Protection from this CVE
Update to version >0.3.
Implement egress traffic filtering.
Use certificate pinning additionally.
Impact:
Sensitive data exposure.
Policy enforcement failure.
Man-in-the-middle potential.
