How the mentioned CVE works:
The vulnerability resides within the UserManagement component of LogStare Collector. It is a classic stored cross-site scripting (XSS) flaw. The application fails to properly validate or encode user-supplied input before persisting it to the database. An attacker with authenticated access, even with low privileges, can inject malicious JavaScript code into fields such as username or other profile information. This crafted payload is then saved on the server. When a legitimate user, such as an administrator, accesses the management interface to view user lists or details, the application retrieves and renders the stored data without sanitization. The victim’s web browser interprets the embedded script as legitimate code and executes it within the security context of the application’s domain. This execution happens automatically upon page load, requiring no further interaction from the victim beyond normal login and navigation. The malicious script can perform actions on behalf of the logged-in user, including stealing session cookies, authentication tokens, or other sensitive data. It could also modify the web page content, redirect the user, or make unauthorized API calls. The attack leverages the trust placed in the management portal. The CVSS vector indicates network-based attack, low attack complexity, and no prerequisites for attack timing. Privileges required are low, and user interaction is active but non-malicious. The impacts are primarily on confidentiality and integrity at the system level, with secondary impacts on scope. The medium severity score of 4.8 reflects the need for initial access and the specific user interaction required for successful exploitation.
